Baker’s live show is just as unflinching and visceral as her recorded work, and her between-song wisecracks just as genuine and humble as she’d been in conversation…the whole room was still ready to sing right back.” – Interview Magazine

“She wrung the most from her solo setup, nailing complicated electric guitar parts without letting them get in the way of her soaring, sighing vocals. When she grabbed an acoustic and stepped in front of the mic for a few songs, her stage presence was somehow amplified. She’s the rare talent who can captivate a room full of people all by herself, without theatrics or even many dynamic shifts.” – Stereogum

February 9, 2016 – Julien Baker has announced a North American headlining tour this April, beginning on the 13th in Indianapolis, IN. The dates will take the young, Memphis-based artist throughout the midwest, northeast, and into Canada before wrapping up in New York at the Bowery Ballroom on April 27th. Baker will head out on a previously announced run of west coast dates in Seattle, WA on February 22nd, beginning the second leg of her current US headlining tour that has seen sell-outs in Philadelphia, PA, Boston, MA, Washington, DC, and both Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY. She is also confirmed to perform at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, TX in March. A current itinerary is below.

The 20-year-old Baker’s debut album Sprained Ankle was released on October 23, 2015 via 6131 Records to widespread acclaim, and earned her a spot on multiple year-end, Best-Of lists including: The New York Times, NPR Music, Stereogum, The AV Club, Paste, and New York Magazine’s Vulture, among others. She recently filmed a session in Chicago with Audiotree, which will be released tomorrow, February 10th, and a stunning live version of album closer “Go Home” can now be seen and shared as a preview here: https://youtu.be/JxTjko70fBg.

Stripped-back and raw with emotion, Sprained Ankle – recorded in Richmond, VA’s Spacebomb Studios – is an intimate and exquisite debut. Baker wrote these nine songs across 2014, following her move from Memphis to Murfreesboro, TN for college. Away from her family and close friends (including her band Forrister), writing proved to be a creative, cathartic outlet for her loneliness. The resultant songs are confessional yet accessible, personally contemplative yet universally relatable, unsparingly honest yet deeply heartening – and filled with tales of staggering experiences and striking imagery.

Additional praise for Julien Baker:

Ms. Baker sings in a shivering whisper, the voice of a naïf, but her imagery is colorful, direct, intricate, harrowing.” – The New York Times

“…the music she’s making for now is wound and salve alike – NPR, about “Sprained Ankle”

Her recently released debut, Sprained Ankle, contains nine sparse, beautifully morose coming-of-age tableaus…the hope on the record lives in her gauzy, haunting guitar lines and the crystalline quality of her voice.”

– RollingStone.com, ‘10 New Artists You Need To Know: November 2015’

Listening to Julien Baker’s debut album, it seems like she’s lived a lifetime in her 19 years. Her songs are simple, sad, and real…Sprained Ankle feels like a passageway into her mind.”

– TeenVogue.com, ‘10 New Musical Artists We’re Thankful For This Year’

I contest Baker is not wise beyond her years, but uncannily wise of her years; her songs are filled with indecision, self-frustration, and uncertain hope.” – Vulture

“…Sprained Ankle sounds effortless, a wellspring of wisdom and weariness from an impossibly astute 20-year-old. … Baker’s spare, magnificent songs gleam and shimmer, fractured precursors of things to come.” – Stereogum

“… if you prefer redemption songs to sound as raw as they feel, Sprained Ankle could bring you to your knees.” – Pitchfork

“…an austere, haunting set of folk songs.” – FLOOD Magazine, ‘Breaking’

“Julien Baker’s music is a study in contradiction, both fragile and steely at the same time…a collection of raw confessionals that marks the 19-year-old’s emergence as a solo artist.”

– NYLON, “Brittle Boned” song premiere

“It’s heartbreaking on a level that very few artists have or likely will reach in 2015, let alone entire careers.” – Absolute Punk
